Back for its twelfth consecutive year, Grimeborn is back at Dalston’s Arcola Theatre from 24th July – 26th August. This festival aims to bring the community together to share their love for the operatic arts and discover some inspiring and exciting new artists on the scene. Experience opera like you never have done before and re-discover some old favourites which have been interpreted in a completely new and different way.

It has been announced that around 17 artists and performers will create the line-up this year and we are to expect some really cutting-edge stuff, as well as some creative workshops which will allow your creative juices to grow, evolve and freely flow.

It has been said that one of the most daring and emotive performances of the whole festival will be the production by Opera Director Julia Burbach as she turns the representation of women, in everything from ancient myths to the more recent ‘#metoo’ movement, on its head to give us an entirely new perception. Other memorable recitals will include Swing Sister Swing’s jazz piece inspired by the great Ella Fitzgerald, plus shows more suited towards younger spectators, like Opera Mouse and Jazz Cat, which will inspire and encourage the next generation to explore the phenomena that is the art of opera.
