To get the challenge rolling, an impressive £1 million of funding was offered to two London Boroughs to act as host to a variety to different events to celebrate the city’s culture. The winner for 2019 was Waltham Forest and the following winner for next year is Brent.

So, what can we expect from this year’s London Borough of Culture? All events have been curated to encapsulate the selected themes for this year: ‘Makers, Radicals and Fellowship.’ The start of January saw the three-day opening event, featuring a remarkable show in the transformed town hall which featured an abundance of some of the most talented and creative local artists, which without doubt set the tone for the events to follow for the rest of the year.

In a few weeks, on 16th Feb, the Waltham Forest Jazz Festival will get started in Walthamstow Assembly Hall, presenting an array of outstanding performances by some of the highly acclaimed jazz musicians, as well as a few up-and-coming artists. Another highly-anticipated event to look forward to once the summer rolls around is Arts Night; this inspiring affair will occur throughout the night and will showcase a series of a new pieces of work which have been completely inspired by the local area.

We’ve picked out just a few highlights, but there is plenty more where that came from and we cannot wait to see what else this year has in store from Waltham Forest. As a neighbouring Borough of Hackney, residents at The Otto won’t be too far from the action and will be able to bring their support to their local surrounding area.
